My granddaughter, Emma, age 11, said she would like to give the blanket away. We went to the Stagger Straight Community Emergency Shelter that provides beds for the homeless to sleep each night.
This is Emma’s story:
“I gave it to Sara who was about to have a baby. I told her I want her to know she’s special and I want her to know her baby is special. I felt like I did something good. I know how the homeless must feel because I felt very out of place in their place. I felt very proud of myself for giving the blanket to the woman and her baby. There were a lot of homeless people in there and I wish I could do more. When I get older I would like to buy an old hotel so homeless people can stay in there. Maybe I can even make blankets some day or ask my mom if I can give my old clothes to them. I’m glad my grandma let me do this. Thank you. ” – Emma Small
