Our Mission is to fill community requests, as nominated by a dealer or vendor member of Excell Marketing, on a local, regional and national scale through the contribution of foodservice equipment and supplies, as well as funding for capital purchases and other needs.
What is Cooking Up Better Lives?
Cooking Up Better Lives was founded by the foodservice buying group, Excell Foodservice Equipment Dealers in 2007. In collaboration with its dealer and vendor members, Cooking Up Better Lives seeks to improve the functionality, efficiency and value of community-based non-profit programs. It is the vision that shelters, homes, hospitals and other community-based entities in need of foodservice products or funds, have the opportunity to receive and leverage such contributions.
Cooking Up Better Lives provides an organized and national coordinating body for the foodservice industry to streamline, leverage and market – giving opportunities to those most in need. Ultimately, our dealer and vendor members around the nation advance in corporate good and social responsibility.
2018 Better Lives
Cooking Up Better Lives has selected a winner for the 2018 Better Lives Makeover: The Center in Palos Park, Illinois.
A Chicago southwest suburban community parish and community center foundation, The Center’s mission is “to help people develop balance in their lives”. Programs and activities include an onsite substance-abuse recovery program, as well as prayer services, memorials, baptisms, weddings, retreats, luncheons, preschool through second-grade classes, farm tours and agricultural education, summer camp, and a full-ranging art program.
The Center is a regional non-profit 501(c)(3) charity, has been in operation since 1932, and currently serves over 33,000 meals per year. The current kitchen at The Center was built in the 1980’s and struggles to meet health department code. The Executive Director of The Center, Dave Sanders, states that “Almost everything we do makes use of our kitchen in one way or another.”
This nominee was brought forth by one of Excell’s dealer members, Mark and Kathy Raber of Ramar Supply, Inc., who never imagined the exposure and positive momentum The Center is about to experience. Ramar Supply will be donating the kitchen design services as well as warehousing, delivery, and installation.
